- Porcelain TWSI must be laid side by side, with a maximum space of 10mm between each tile. Avoid butt joining the tiles, as normal substrate movement can lead to failure.
- Porcelain TWSI must not be laid into wet concrete. This installation method does not allow for a space between the tiles and surrounding surfaces. The lack of space can cause problems due to the expansion and contraction of the substrate. It is advised to seal all joints using a compressible sealant or an appropriate grouting material.
- In most cases, a 12mm recess is necessary when installing tiles on concrete or bitumen surfaces. This can be achieved by using a template at the concrete/bitumen pouring stage. Alternatively, the existing concrete/bitumen substrate can be saw cut to provide a suitable recess. This is achieved by saw-cutting the substrate, making sure to leave enough space between each tile and around the perimeter of external tiles. The substrate is then removed to a depth of approximately 50mm, and the resulting void is filled with concrete or a suitable screeding compound. This provides a solid base for the tiles. Tiles are then laid into this recess using a suitable adhesive.
- Porcelain TWSI must be installed using an approved adhesive that is suitable for the sub-floor. The adhesive must be mixed and applied in strict accordance with the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended instructions. The adhesive must be spread using a 10mm square notched trowel, and the tiles must be placed into the wet film of adhesive.
- In order to ensure a successful installation, it is crucial to follow the correct procedures for adhesive application and ensure proper transference between the tile and substrate. When installing Porcelain TWSI tiles, it is extremely important to spread the adhesive in a way that achieves 100% coverage on the back of the tile. Additionally, the tiles should be gently pressed into the substrate to facilitate adhesive transfer. To ensure a strong and durable installation, it is important to avoid grid sticking or adhering only to the corners of the tiles. Instead, apply force carefully after laying the tiles. This will help eliminate air gaps and ensure proper transfer of the adhesive onto the back of the tile. By doing so, you will achieve a maximum bond with the sub-floor. Additionally, it is crucial to make sure that the adhesive is spread right to the edge of each tile for optimal results.
- It is recommended to avoid foot traffic on the floor, ideally for 48 hours or at least 24 hours after installation, to allow the adhesive to cure properly.
- When using cementitious adhesive, it is crucial to mix the correct proportions of sand, lime, cement, and water. This ensures proper adhesion of the adhesive.
- Any excess adhesive should be promptly removed from the surface before it starts to cure. You can use a clean damp cloth with water to wipe away the excess adhesive.
- If the adhesive has already cured on the surface, avoid aggressive rubbing. Instead, use a damp cloth and try to peel the adhesive away from the surface.
